New Jersey State Parks
Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 7 p.m.

Some of New Jersey's most exciting history can be found in our
more than two dozen State Parks...

Old names such as Wawayanda and Hopatcong remind us of the Lenni Lenape, or "Original People." Historic battlefields recall New Jersey's perilous years as "the Crossroads of the American Revolution." Abandoned forges still speak of our first great industry, and we can trace the beginnings of our transportation network in the paths of the Morris and the Delaware & Raritan Canals. The slide show includes Kevin Woyce’s original photography of many of New Jersey's beautiful state parks, plus vintage maps and images of historic people, places, and events.

Guitar Concert
Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

Peter Biedermann is a guitarist that has been composing and performing for over 35 years and will be appearing for the fourth time at the Washington Township Public Library

While his music covers a number of genres in various disciplines, the music you will hear on the evening of Wednesday, April 18th will be entirely original instrumental music performed on 6, 8 & 12 string guitars in unique tunings combined with various electronic processing devices. The music remains uniquely undefinable, yet familiar at the same time. The architecture of the music is rhythmic and melodic and contains a combination of structure and improvisation that embraces the influences of the last 50 years of years of (too many to be accounted for) solo acoustic guitar visionaries. Fans of the likes of Bert Jansch, John Martyn, Ralph Towner, Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges will enjoy this music. As the program is always interactive with the audience, Peter will spend as much time as necessary to demystify the mystery of his instrumental music.

History of English Tea/Downton Abbey Event
Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.

Discover the fascinating history of this much–loved beverage with Judith Krall-Russo, food historian and certified tea specialist!  Tea was first introduced to England in the 17th century. At first it was used for medicinal purposes and sold in London’s early coffee houses. Only when Catherine of Braganza (an avid tea drinker) of Portugal married England’s Charles II did tea become a social beverage. In 1840, Anna the 7th Duchess of Bedford is credited with inventing the custom of Afternoon Tea, a tradition that was embraced by Queen Victoria. Understand the difference between High Tea and Afternoon Tea and learn proper tea etiquette and customs.

Following the tea presentation, there will be trivia, door prizes and more fun. Tea fare and prizes provided by WTPL staff, Cookie Crumb Productions and Long Valley Restaurant Village, and WT Friends of the Library. B.Y.O.T.C. (Bring Your Own Tea Cup) & please dress of the period if you wish.

The Economics of Happiness Film Screening and Discussion,
Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.

The Economics of Happiness describes a world moving simultaneously in two opposing directions. On the one hand, an unholy alliance of governments and big business continues to promote globalization and the consolidation of corporate power. At the same time, people all over the world are resisting those policies, demanding a re-regulation of trade and finance—and, far from the old institutions of power; they’re starting to forge a very different future. Communities are coming together to re-build more human scale, ecological economies based on a new paradigm – an economics of localization.

Call the Library at 908-876-3596 or go to www.wtpl.org and sign up under Adult Activities for these programs!
