WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP CARD HOLDERS OFFERED NEW MUSEUM ACCESS

Friends of the Washington Township Public Library are delighted to announce the addition of The Frick Collection, in New York City, to the list of museums to which Washington Township Public Library has memberships.

The library membership program, funded and maintained by the Friends organization, provides library card holders with the opportunity to borrow membership cards to area museums. In doing so, library patrons can enjoy the benefits of membership, which include free admissions. In some cases, benefits also include admission to special exhibits and events and discounts in museum shops.

The Frick Collection, located at 1 East 70 St., at the corner of Fifth Avenue and opposite Central Park, is one of the world’s premier art museums. Occupying a mansion which was the home of the late industrialist Henry Clay Frick, it is an example of the architecture of New York’s “gilded age,” and provides visitors with a unique opportunity to spend time in this historic building.

The Frick’s permanent art collection includes masterpieces by such artists as Rembrandt, Bellini, Vermeer, Goya, Gainsborough and Whistler, among others. The museum also presents special exhibits, concerts and lectures and symposia.

The Frick is currently showing 15 paintings on loan from the Netherlands’ Royal Picture Gallery in The Hague. From the 17th century Dutch Golden Age, they include masterpieces from Rembrandt and Franz Hals, and the famous “Girl with the Pearl Earring” by Vermeer.

Except for holidays, the Frick Collection is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm, and Sunday, 11 am to 5 pm. It is closed Mondays and Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Children under 10 are not admitted.

The other museums to which the Washington Township Library has membership are the Guggenheim Museum, the Grounds for Sculpture, the Morris Museum, the Stickley Museum and the Museum for Early Trades and Crafts. The borrowing period is three days, not including the day the pass is borrowed.

Friends of the Washington Township Public Library is a volunteer organization which supports library programs. Along with museum passes, it sponsors the Lifetime Learning continuing education series, free concerts and programs at the library, the monthly Movie Night, the Summer Reading Programs for all age groups, the monthly Book Page, and other activites. New members are always welcome. Contact us at friendsofwtpl@gmail.com.
