Washington Twp Public Library: April Children's Programs

Washington Township Public Library at 37 E. Springtown Road in Long Valley, N.J. (www.wtpl.org) will hold the following children’s programs and registrations during April 2011: * Please note – Washington Twp residents are given priority for all programs that require sign-ups.* You’ve been waiting all year – It’s time for The National Library Week Bookmark Contest! Starting April 4th, you may pick up instructions and a blank bookmark. Make sure to return your (one only please) bookmark by May 2nd, so the voting may begin. For more info stop by or check our website. Book Buddies – SIGN up NOW! Volunteers needed - Grades 5 and up. Kids in Grades 1 or 2 practice reading to a Big Buddy (grades 5 & up). Please sign up with Mrs. Birch. Tuesdays from 4:30 -5:00pm, 6 weeks, starting April 5th. Spring Story Time March 22nd – May 12th Mother Goose & Me: (up to 24 months): Thursdays @ 10am or 11am Toddler Time: (ages 2-3): Tuesdays @ 10 am or 11am Story Time : (ages 3-5 ): Wednesdays @ 10am or 1pm We will have fun with stories, fingerplays, songs and more. April 2nd(Saturday) NO FAMILY MOVIE or StoryTime this month due to a SPECIAL FAMILY PROGRAM ---- Bach 2 Rock @ 1:00pm - Watch and listen as Caryn changes the originally composed Bach minuet into a magical three dimensional sound right before your eyes. Audiences of ALL ages are captivated. Online registration has started. April 6th (Wednesday) Evening Story Time @ 7:00pm – Family Story Time – Join Mrs. Averett for a Rumble in the Jungle Story Time - No registration required. April 9th(Saturday) - Family Program Eyes of the Wild presents: When Animals Attack! @ 2:30pm – Join us we learn about many mammals that have developed amazing characteristics to avoid becoming "lunch." LIVE ANIMALS! Washington Twp residents register online starting 4/1. April 11th (Monday) LEGO Club @ 4:00pm – Kids ages 5-11 yrs can come to build exciting creations. WT residents only. Online sign ups start 4/4. April 13th (Wednesday) Interactive Watershed Awareness Program @ 4:00pm – kids in grades 1-5, Join our ambassador, Calvin, as he teaches us about what happens to the water that we live with – using games & other activities. Limited space available – please sign-up online starting 4/6 April 15th (Friday) Kidz Kraft @ 4:00pm –Kids in grades K-2, Join us for a spring fling - make something springy. Please sign up online starting 4/8. April 18th(Monday) 3-4 Book Club @ 4:00pm. Kids in grades 3 & 4 - Join us as we discuss Mr. Popper’s Penguins by Richard Atwater – an old classic, soon to be released as a major motion picture starring Jim Carrey. We will also start our next chapter book – a mystery. Books & snacks will be available at the meeting. Please contact Mrs. Birch if interested. April 20th (Wednesday) Afternoon Story Time @ 4:00pm – all ages welcome. Join us for stories about Books & Libraries – Celebrate National Library Week! No registration required. April 21st (Thursday) Big Kidz Kraft @ 4:00pm – Kids in grades 3-5 - Celebrate Earth Day - recycle stuff to make something fun! Please register online starting 4/14. April 25th(Monday) 5-6 Book Club @ 4:00pm – Join us to discuss The Ruby in the Smoke , by Phillip Pullman, a Victorian mystery. Snacks available. Pick up a book at the library. Bring a board just in case – no registration required. *SPECIAL PARENTING WORKSHOPS* - check our May calendar for more* The Developing Child presented by Diane Lang Diane Lang is a Therapist, Educator and Author with an expertise in multiple mental health, lifestyle and parenting needs. In addition to holding multiple counseling positions, Diane is also an adjunct professor at Montclair State University and Centenary College April 19th (Tuesday) @ 7:00pm Learn how your infant and toddler develop. This is an amazing time for your baby - they are learning how to crawl, walk and talk. This workshop will go over the developmental milestones from 6 weeks to 2 ½ years old and give you a brief summary of what to expect from your child developmentally and how you can help your child through each developmental stage. This workshop is two weeks - first week is age's birth - 3 years old April 20th (Wednesday) @ 7:00pm Have you always wanted to know what your child should be doing cognitively, emotionally and physically during the pre-school years? What tasks can they master at each age? This workshop will discuss the developmental milestones for pre-school age children (ages 3-6). What to expect of your child socially, emotionally and intellectually. We will discuss the importance of play, make-believe, creativity and imagination. Please register online @ wtpl.org
