Dining with History at the Washington Twp. Public Library

Dining with History on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Twp. Public Library, 37 E. Springtown Rd., Long Valley, NJ.

This PowerPoint® presentation by Phil and Jean Jaeger primarily focuses on New Jersey restaurants, as well as restaurants in neighboring states, that began operation as long ago as the 1700s. In every case the building itself is an important part of our heritage whether it originally was a mill, inn, school, railroad station, private residence or other historic structure.

The Jaegers will recount the origins of many notable dining establishments, and also present exterior and interior views of the restaurants as they appear today. They will also point out nearby attractions of interest and provide a directory containing contact information for each restaurant discussed in the program for those desiring to experience both the history and the cuisine for themselves.

Phil, a retired mathematics teacher, is the author of two books: “Montclair: A Postcard Guide to Its Past” and “Cedar Grove”. He is a trustee of the Cedar Grove Historical Society and a former trustee of the Passaic County Historical Society.

Jean is a retired first grade teacher. She was a member of the Cedar Grove Board of Education for six years, serving three years as president. Jean is secretary of the Cedar Grove Historical Society and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an organization of key women educators.
